VA Flaggers Update: VMFA/MOC 8-2-2013

On Tuesday evening, July 30th, 10 Va Flaggers gathered on the Boulevard in Richmond, Va to protest the removal of Confederate Battle Flags from the Confederate Memorial Chapel by the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, forward the colors, and educate and inform the public. It was a beautiful day, and while traffic was a bit light, there were many opportunities to defend the honor of our Confederate ancestors and teach folks about the flags they fought and died beneath.

Over 20 Flaggers attended a meeting immediately following the Flagging, where great food, great fellowship, and great fun was mixed with a whole lot of planning and information on our current and future strategies in heritage defense. Stay tuned for some VERY EXCITING news...

THIS AFTERNOON, Friday, August 2nd, an impromptu Flagging was called at the Museum of the Confederacy.  Flaggers stood outside of the entrance with signs such as this:

"CONFEDERATE HISTORY FOR SALE...DETAILS INSIDE"

Most of the visitors we talked to had NO IDEA that Waite Rawls refused to fly a Confederate flag at Appomattox or that he has plans to merge the museum and distribute our treasured artifacts and documents among two VERY Un-Confederate institutions.

The MOC is located right next to MCV Hospitals and traffic is HEAVY and steady. We had the opportunity to have many conversations and had NO negative confrontations, whatsoever in the time that we were there.

The RPD stopped by to ask what we were up to. This officer told us that he once thought the war was all about slavery, but had since learned differently. He was very courteous and wished us well. We even got support from a Syrian family! Talk about your diverse Confederates...!

We are working on getting signs made and fliers printed for distribution, which will include information on the many transgressions committed by Mr. Rawls since taking control of the Museum, including his refusal to fly a Confederate flag at Appomattox, and details of the plan to merge the museum, which was (thankfully) leaked by concerned employees last week. The Va Flaggers are calling on ALL Confederates to contact the Museum Board of Trustee members and request the following:

1) The immediate removal of Waite Rawls as President and CEO.

2) The immediate termination of any and all plans to merge the Museum of the Confederacy with Tredegar and/or the VHS and distribute her collections

3) Placement a Battle Flag or Third National on the grounds of the Museum of the Confederacy at Appomattox.

4) That the Museum return to its original intent...to perpetuate the honor of the Confederate Soldier by preserving the record of his valor.

Take a minute to read this letter to MOC Board Members from an SCV member serving in Afghanistan...

TOMORROW, SATURDAY, AUGUST 3rd, the Virginia Flaggers will once again cover the line of battle in Richmond from the Museum of the Confederacy near MCV...across town to the VMFA. We will have a group on the ground at the MOC from 10:00 a.m. - UNTIL, and on the Boulevard at the VMFA from 12:00 noon - 4:00 p.m.

Our line may be stretched thin, but it will be steadfast! PLEASE consider joining us, and taking a stand for your Confederate Ancestors. A few hours out of your day seems like a small sacrifice compared to what they endured. You don't need any special training. Our folks will be happy to show you the ropes. The only requirement is a Confederate Flag (and we can lend you one if you need it), a Confederate heart, and the courage to stand.

RETURN the flags!
RESTORE the honor!
